Liam Boyle, an activist and a long-time member of the Labour Party, who has served as the party's constituency council chair and Dáil director of elections for Michael D Higgins, will stand in Galway City East at May's Local Elections.
Mr Boyle joines Mayor Liam McNelis (Galway City West ) and John McDonagh (Galway City Central ) as the third Labour candidate for the local elections. He has lived in Galway City East for more than years. He worked as a technician and trainer with Digital manufacturing, and afterwards worked in the area of adult and continuing education with FÁS, the institutes of technology, and several universities. He was on the steering committee of the Galway Together for Yes campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment and was formerly on the committee of the Galway Traveller Support Group.
Mr Boyle stated his campaign would focus on livability, including improved facilities for parents and children, improved infrastructure for walkers and cyclists, community arts, and accessibility rights of residents with disabilities. “Galway must be a city that includes all, values all," he said, "and seeks to promote the well-being of all."
