Sweeter than Roses concert tomorrow night

Oranmore soprano, Helen Hancock will present an evening of singing and music in the auditorium of Galway Community College, Moneenageisha tomorrow Friday March 22 at 8pm.

All proceeds from the concert will go to Voices for Galway, a branch of Down Syndrome Galway which fundraises to provide additional speech therapy for children with special needs, where early intervention is so important.

The concert will also feature flautist Joanne Cater and pianist Mark Keane. Helen gave her Galway debut evening performance in November in the Augustinian Church and is a regular performer in Limerick where she studies with Owen Gilhooly. Joanne is a well known flautist, flute teacher, jazz musician and conductor.

Mark Keane is an organist, accompanist and conductor of many ensembles including Tribal Chamber Choir in Galway and has recently completed his doctorate in the RIAM/Trinity College Dublin.

The programme on the evening will be varied with music from Baroque to opera and arrangements of Irish music for classical flute. Helen Hancock, also the conductor of the Marine Singers and a teacher in Coole Music, Galway said that the auditorium has a really beautiful acoustic and she is llooking forward to performing with Joanne and Mark.

“I love using my singing voice to help raise money for Voices for Galway. We are performing lots of different styles of music and this concert has something to appeal to everyone,” she said.

Tickets are €10 each and can be bought on the door on the night.
