The Pálás Cinema was celebrating last weekend following winning two Civic Trust Awards at the 60th annual ceremony in Manchester - including a special award for community impact and engagement.

Pálás was the only Irish winner at this year’s awards out of 240 worldwide entries. "We are delighted that Pálás and its diverse programme is being celebrated for its contribution to the cultural landscape of Galway," said Pálás’ general manager, Katie Walsh. "This is fantastic news for DePaor Architects, Element Pictures, and everyone on Team Pálás!"

The building’s architect Tom DePaor said: “It is nice the building is recognised here, not just as a stack of atmospheric rooms in a dramatic shell, but as a piece of urbanism and an extension of the social life of inner city Galway."
