Higgins demands action over illegal parking in Salthill

Lenaboy Gardens, Emerson Avenue, Oaklands, and Beach Avenue are 'blackspots for illegal parking'

Lenaboy Gardens, Emerson Avenue, Oaklands, and Beach Avenue are "blackspots for illegal parking" in Salthill, and the Galway City Council must take action to deal with this problem.

This is the view of Fine Gael Galway City West candidate, Clodagh Higgins, who is calling on City Hall to introduce parking by-laws "so people can be assured peaceful enjoyment of their homes and surrounds".

According to Ms Higgins, the illegal parking takes on the form of commuters and shoppers who leave their cars in Salthill, and then "walk the remainder of the way into the city centre even though there is ample parking in the car parks surrounding the village".

She said there have been cases of vehicles parked in a manner that "makes it difficult" for residents to park their cars, and also impacts on "clear sight lines for people accessing and egressing from their homes".
