Leader of successful bid campaign appointed Galway 2020 CEO

Galway 2020 has announced the appointment of Patricia Philbin as CEO of the Galway 2020 team.

Following the recent departure of CEO, Hannah Kiely, Ms Philbin has been seconded from Galway City Council, where she is currently Director of Services and who has extensive experience in the administration of cultural services.

Ms Philbin, who was Project Manager of Galway 2020 in the bid phase, and who led the team that won the designation of European Capital of Culture, says she is delighted to be re-joining the team at such a crucial time for the project.

“I’m very excited about working with Galway 2020 as it comes closer to 2020. This is a project tha thas always been close to my heart, and I look forward to working with the team on making this an exceptional year for Galway county and city,” she said.

Chairperson of Galway 2020 Aideen McGinley speaking on behalf of the Board said they are delighted that Patricia is joining the organisation as CEO.

“We are confident that the future of Galway 2020 is in safe hands as Patricia has extensive experience in leading the 2020 team, a project I know she is very passionate about.

“We welcome her and look forward to working with her to drive the project forward between now and 2020”.

As CEO of Galway 2020, Ms Philbin, who previously held the role of head of Economic, Community and Cultural Department in Galway City Council, will be responsible for leading the team, while working closely with the Board of Directors to deliver the programme.

It will also be a part of her remit to ensure a lasting legacy from Galway 2020 throughout the county and city.
