Greenfields celebrate club award

Greenfields Hockey Club has been named the Club of the Year by the Irish Hockey Association.

The award, presented at a gala dinner in Dublin on Saturday evening, followed Greenfield’s fantastic 2011/12 season when they became the first Connacht club to win a national trophy, as well as winning the Connacht senior and junior cups.

Dubarry Park will host the first home fixture of the Connacht Eagles tomorrow evening (7.45pm) when English outfit Newcastle visit for the second round of the B&I Cup.

In Connacht’s first entry into this competition, the Eagles, coached by Nigel Carolan, will face current pool leaders Newcastle in pool four, which also boasts Cross Keys.

It has taken the club seven long years, but eventually after Trojan efforts, they finally received their reward last Sunday when they defeated Athenry in the intermediate county final at Pearse Stadium by 2-13 to 0-7 to regain their senior status.
