Moycullen were the big winners at Basketball Ireland’s annual awards, winning the Irish Club of the Year crown, while NUIG’s Mystics star Ailish O’Reilly awarded the National League Young Player of the Year.
Moycullen’s award comes after a season in which the club enjoyed success on the big stage. Two of the club’s most memorable wins came in the overtime SuperLeague thriller against DCU Saints and the u-18 National Cup quarter-final triumph away to KUBS of Dublin.

The career of Connacht Rugby legend Johnny O’Connor will be celebrated tomorrow evening at a special retirement celebration in The Ardilaun hotel.
The Galway native who endeared himself to supporters for his 100 per cent commitment and hard-hitting tackling, retired at the end of the season after making his 146th appearance for the province. The flanker’s career included 12 caps for Ireland and two Heineken Cup wins and premiership titles with Wasps in England.

Great basketball news for Galway. Moycullen has been named as club of the year by Basketball Ireland. The award, which is voted for by members of the national media that regularly feature basketball as part of their sports coverage, is a huge honour for the club.
The National Awards Ceremony, which takes place on Saturday in the National Basketball Arena in Dublin, will also see NUIG Mystics player Ailish O’Reilly collect the National League Young Player of the Year award.
