Our fantasy football managers will be glad of the holiday as they can relax without the nagging doubt of team selections hanging over their heads. However international breaks come with a warning as star players could be injured on national duty or for those non-European players, long distances to travel will more than likely rule them out of an immediate return to the Premier League which kicks off again on November 19.

Galway Teachers were crowned Interfirms Senior Hurling champions at the fifth attempt when they defeated reigning champions Medtronic 5-21 to 3-20 in the final in St Brendan’s Park, Loughrea, on Saturday.

Mellows' clubman Adrian Morrissey, with a tally of 4-6, was scorer in chief for the Teachers, but this was an all-round team performance in an entertaining encounter with both sides providing an exhibition of score taking.

First he survived a tie-break against Sydney's Dylan King in the quarters before clawing back a 17-20 deficit in the semi-final to win 21-20, 21-4, and book his place in the final. Here he faced New York's Ed Dotsenko which the Galway and Moycullen man won 21-17, 21-8.

Radisson Blu Streets of Galway 8K 2016 - race preview

Galway’s biggest road-race takes place this weekend, as the 2016 event sees the 31st running of the iconic Streets of Galway 8K road-race. The Galway City Harriers' organized event, which is sponsored this year by the Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa Galway, takes place on Saturday August 6 at 7pm. This year the race will have 3,000 participants with many top Irish athletes competing including some Irish internationals and top local road runners as well as thousands of fun runners and joggers.
