After dethroning the All-Ireland champions in an epic semi-final, Cappataggle go on the hunt for a first ever Galway senior hurling title when they take on a strong Loughrea side in Kenny Park, Athenry on Sunday afternoon (throw-in: 145pm).
Years of semi-final anguish was swept away when Cappataggle held on for a 1-15 to 0-15 victory over St. Thomas’ to claim a place in the senior final for the first time in the club’s history. They had a late let-off when a thundering strike by Eanna Burke rattled a post seconds before the final whistle was blown, but few could deny Cappataggle, who lost four consecutive semi-finals from 2017 to 2020, their moment in the sun.

Reigning champions Corofin will face Salthill/Knocknacarra and 2020 winners Maigh Cuilinn will play Tuam Stars in the last four of the senior football championship.
None of the four teams left has been overly impressive in the championship so far and this could be reflective of the gap between the top four or five sides to the rest or it may show just how negative and systematic football has become. In each of the four games last weekend the four winners did their damage in uninspiring, efficient spells and then consolidated their advantage with conservative, defensive football.

It was an exciting weekend in the Senior A, B and Intermediate camogie championships with some close battles throughout the games. Sarsfields, Mullagh and Athenry made it two wins from two while Ardrahan registered their first win of the championship. There were back to back wins for Salthill Knocknacarra and Shamrocks in the Senior B championship while Castlegar came late to overcome Eyrecourt for their first points and Craughwell and Clarinbridge shared the spoils. Meanwhile in the intermediate championship, there were wins for Killimor, Ahascragh Caltra and Pearses while Abbeyknockmoy and Liam Mellows had to split the points.
