Galway had two winners at the universities track and field championships in Santry at the weekend.

Keith Fallon and Evan Mcguire, both of GCH and running for DCU, produced great performances to take victory in the 5000m and 400m hurdles respectively.

With the Olympics Games in Rio only months away, Galway sports fans will have the chance to spend an entertaining evening in the company of two of the legendary figures of Irish athletics.

The Connemara International Marathon, one of the world’s most scenic events and its 15th year, takes place on Sunday with some 3,000 entrants. The event comprises half, full and ultra (39.3 mile) marathons. Participants will enjoy some of Ireland’s most beautiful scenery including the Twelve Pins mountain range, Killary Lough, Leenane, the Maam Turk Mountains, Lough Inagh Valley, and Ma’am.

Breathnach breaks another record

Sean Breathnach of Galway City Harriers took pride of place at the National Senior Indoor Championships at the Athlone IT arena last weekend.

Winning the national shot putt title yet again, Breathnach also broke the national indoor record. He threw a massive 18.16 metres to break the 35-years-old national Indoor record of 18.03, and also threw 18.13 and 17.67 in a superb series of throws. Sean’s brother Micheal took bronze in the shot, making it a great day for the Breathnach family.
