Connemara National Park Visitor Centre is to remain open all year round, for the first time in its near 40 year history, it was announced this week, and the park is also set for major development in the coming years.

Students may be facing homelessness as the college year starts, especially in Galway, with much student accommodation rented out in advance, leaving young people facing “some stark options”.
This is the view of Fianna Fáil spokesperson for Children and Youth Affairs, and Galway East TD, Anne Rabbitte, who is calling on the Galway city and county councils to “make sure there are sufficient supports in place” for students as they return to Galway in September, and for the local authorities to be “proactive, not reactive”, when it comes to student homelessness.

With third level education costs continuing to spiral in Ireland, the financial pressure of putting a child through college continues to take its toll on household budgets.
A national survey in 2017 found that eight in ten parents said they struggled to cover the costs of their child’s third level education. The study, commissioned by the Irish League of Credit Unions, also found that one third of parents report money concerns to be their biggest third-level-related worry.

Gardai in Clifden are investigating the theft of a number of outboard boat engines from the Clonbur and Corn na Mona areas between June 27 and July 1. A 5 horsepower two stroke Yamaha engine was taken from the Ferrybridge area near Clonbur between the June 26 and July 1. A 6 horsepower Yamaha stroke engine and a 9.9 horsepower two stroke engine was taken from the Dooras area between 30 June and July 1. Members of the public are asked to report any suspicious activity and boat owners are asked to be vigilant.
