The creation of thirty new jobs in Galway by Enterprise Ireland Companies is a huge boost for the West of Ireland, according to Senator for Roscommon-Galway, Aisling Dolan who is Seanad Spokesperson for Further & Higher Education, Science, Innovation and Research.

The roles are being created in three Enterprise Ireland supported companies that are based in Galway. Palliare, a medical device company, has hired 10 new employees in recent months. Flexwork company, Ronspot, intends to have a total of 10 new employees on board by Spring 2021, and has hired five people since September. Ronspot is a technology company which enables the flexible workplace between office and home. Venari Medical filled three new positions in October and have plans to recruit up to 10 new employees in the coming months.

New social welfare payment increases to take effect this month

A number of Social Welfare payment increases are set to take effect in January 2021 as part of measures introduced in Budget 2021.

Payments for qualified child dependants will increase by €5 for children aged 12 or over and €2 for children aged up to 12, meaning parents on weekly social welfare payments will see an increase in their weekly rate of payment. These increases will take effect at various dates in January depending on the weekly welfare payment that either parent is receiving. It is expected that this increase will benefit some 419,000 children at a cost of €59.2 million in 2021.
