South Connacht Citizens Information Service is delighted to announce the resumption of drop-in services at its offices from November 1. Throughout the Covid19 pandemic, South Connacht Citizens Information Service has continued to delivery crucial information, advice and advocacy services to the public. However due to public health considerations, in-person services have been limited.
The resumption of drop-in services will help ensure that our services are as accessible as possible to the public. The public should be aware however that capacity may be limited at certain times due to necessary public health measures and staffing constraints. A full-time telephone and email service will continue to be available.

Mental health advocate and sea swimmer June Curtin of Snámhaí Sásta will join Galway fire and rescue service at Salthill’s first Swim in Pink event in aid of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. June will travel from her native Spanish Point in Co Clare to lead anyone willing to swim, dip or splash in pink into the water at Ladies Beach, Salthill, on Sunday, October 31st at 1pm.
The inaugural Swim in Pink is the brainchild of Blackrock Beachwear’s, Louise Griffin, who has also created a limited-edition swimsuit especially for the event, with all profits going to the NBCRI. The swimsuit has been designed with the pink ribbon - the international symbol of breast cancer awareness - and the Swim in Pink logo.

Holidaying in Connemara just after the Millennium, I read one of those small grey boxes in the Rough Guide they use to give additional information about a specific location; in my case Ballynahinch Castle where I was having lunch. The description of a previous owner – Richard ‘Humanity Dick’ Martin - was intriguing.
Apparently, this man had pioneered animal rights in the early 19th century but was, somewhat paradoxically, the most feared duellist in Ireland. This snippet of information led me spending the following year living in Roundstone conducting pre-google research into Martin’s life and writing his biography.

ÉireComposites, an Údarás na Gaeltachta client company located in the Conamara Gaeltacht, has secured a €8.1 million contract with Spirit AeroSystems, the world’s largest first-tier aerostructures manufacturer, to provide structural components for business jets and commercial airliners.
The new contract will bolster 60 existing positions in Éire Composites and the company will look to create 40 new jobs over the next three years at their facility in Indreabhán in Co. Galway.
