At his installation Mass on Sunday afternoon, which was delayed by a quarter hour because of traffic congestion on what was an unusually busy Bank Holiday Sunday in the city, he spoke of the great honour it is to be appointed to work in the Cathedral which he said has “lived up to Bishop Browne’s dream that it would be “solid, dignified and worthy of Galway.”

The Galway Lorient Twinning committee is delighted to present the Mini Brittany Fest 2022 next week with a programme that includes a range of events and activities to celebrate the Celtic connections and friendships shared since 1975 when the twinning was first established and signed between Mairie de Lorient and Galway City Council.

The month of May and most particularly dates around May 19 mark the celebration of St Yves patron of Brittany, Yvo, Yves, or Ives (and in Breton as Erwan, Iwan, Youenn or Eozenn, depending on the region, and known as Yves He?lory. He is referred to as “Advocate of the Poor”.

Bishop of Galway, Brendan Kelly has praised the courage of the victim whose complaint led to the jailing of a city priest for sexual abuse today.

On 23rd November, 2021, Fr. Tom Brady, a priest of the Galway diocese, pleaded guilty to a charge of sexual assault. Today, at Galway Circuit Court, he was sentenced to two years in prison, with six months suspended. Fr. Brady has been on leave from ministry since 27th May, 2016.
