Gardaí in Salthill are investigating a criminal damage incident that occurred at the Droim Chaoin estate occurred on Friday July 5 approximately 15 minutes past midnight when the homeowner discovered the wreath hanging on the front door had been set alight.

The fire was extinguished. Gardaí in Salthill are looking to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and observed any suspicious activity or who may have any information in relation to this incident are asked to contact Salthill Garda Station on 091-514720 or indeed the Garda confidential line on 1800666111.

Galway West Independent TD Noel Grealish has confirmed that Oughterard is to retain its post office. The village’s current postmistress is retiring from the business in September and there has been some concern locally about the future of post office services in Oughterard.

Deputy Grealish said he was delighted to have received confirmation this week from An Post that that the village would definitely retain a post office — a service it has enjoyed for more than 210 years.
