Young people who persist in deliberate dangerous driving are the “manufacturers of their own demise”; this was the severe response of a District Court judge this week who disqualified a defendant after he was found “drifting” at a roundabout with other boy racers.

At Galway District Court last Monday was Daniel Finnerty (23) with an address at Kilgarriff, Headford Road, who pleaded guilty to the charge of dangerous driving at Parkmore, Ballybrit, on August 18, 2007.

Warrant issued for woman held in Surinam for drug offences

A Galway woman, who is currently being detained in Surinam for alleged drug offences, had a bench warrant issued against her at Galway District Court this week in the event she comes back to Ireland.

Nicola Black (23) with an address at 83 Droim Chaoin, Rahoon, was due to appear in Galway District Court last Monday to answer charges of drink driving and dangerous driving at Quincentenary Bridge, Galway, on March 17, 2008. However, Inspector Ernie White informed the court that her appearance had been hampered by the fact that Black is currently being detained in Surinam for drugs matters.

Along the way there will be some festive spooks and scares, such as the Haunted House which promises to be a scream and run for your life in the ghostly gardens! Also at the event will be some creepy creatures and characters. The White Mountains of New Hampshire are aflame this week. Trees of fiery orange and red entwined in a mix of russet and chocolate brown. The year is changing colours as the fall envelops the north east of America. “America is about to change colours politically as well,” says Theodore (Ted) S Sares, who now lives in the ‘Granite State’. He is a business consultant and also describes himself as a private investor. He would admit in a colourful burst of laughter that he is a millionaire, but he was a bigger millionaire before the financial crisis struck. Ted Sares could strike once too — and he could put together a one/two combination in the ring. He was a useful amateur light heavyweight with 130 contests under his belt. And he once closed the Digital Corporation business in Galway.
