Man jumps on Garda car bonnet in stag night bet

A Donegal man, who jumped on to the bonnet of a Garda patrol car causing €500 worth of damage, said that his stag do mates had dared him to do it, the Galway District Court heard this week.

Kenneth Orr (28) with an address at Ballyare, Ramelton, Letterkenny, Donegal, pleaded guilty last Monday to criminal damage to a Garda patrol car at Eyre Square on September 20, 2008.

Alcoholics Anonymous in the Galway West area will hold its 34th annual convention at the Galway Bay Hotel from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday.

There will be an open public AA meeting on Friday from 8.30pm to 10pm and on Sunday from 11.30am to 1pm. All are welcome.

Coole gears up for spring cultural programme

Once again the Friends of Coole in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Services, Galway County Council, Galway Rural Development, Galway Education Centre, Fáilte Ireland West, and the community of Gort will host the official launch of the Cultural and Heritage Winter Programme at Coole Park. Financial aid package needed for sheep farmers – Treacy

Dep Noel Treacy has called on the Government and the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Brendan Smith, to put in place a special financial aid package for sheep farmers.

“Minister Smith secured the right to use unused CAP monies at the end of each calendar year at a meeting of the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers last November,” Dep Treacy said. “This opens up to the Irish Government to spend a further €23 million a year between the years 2010 - 2013.
