The Galway Bike Festival will take place from Saturday June 18 to Sunday 26 but from next week on a variety of organisations will be encouraging Galwegians to cycle to school, work, or college at least once a week.

It has been a long day, and he looks forward to finishing work and heading home. His decision on where to get dinner is soon interrupted by the sound of his emergency phone.

According to new research, Irish people are currently in the doldrums and badly in need of an uplift. The results of a Dulux ‘Mood of the Nation’ Ipsos MRBI Poll released on April 19 showed 72 per cent of people believe the mood of the nation to be low or very low, with a further 80 per cent believing Irish communities are badly in need of an uplift.

Galway and the west of Ireland will have voices in the new Seanad Éireann that will campaign and use all the powers it can to represent the concerns and fears of the people, and make the Seanad relevant to Irish political life, so say the county’s newest senators.
This is the view of Galway’s new senators, Sinn Féin’s Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and Fine Gael’s Michael Mullins, who were the first Galwegians elected to the 24th Seanad. Mr Ó Clochartaigh also made history by being the first Sinn Féin representative from Galway West to take a seat in Upper House.

The HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday warned the public regarding the dangers of Lyme disease. Spread by tick bites, in a minority of cases it can cause severe debilitating heart and nervous system disease.
With more people engaging in outdoor pursuits during the summer months, those who work and walk in forested or grassy areas must be vigilant against tick bites, says Dr Paul McKeown, HPSC specialist in public health medicine.
