Ireland left with highest VAT rate in Eurozone says Ó Cuív

Budget 2012 does nothing to tackle the State’s job crisis but everything to ensure we have the highest rate of VAT in the Eurozone according to Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív.

The Fianna Fáil deputy leader accused the Government of failing “to take any meaningful measures to tackle the jobs crisis” in this week’s Budget.

Child abuse claims against eighteen priests in Tuam archdiocese, audit reveals

Allegations of child sexual abuse were made against 18 priests in the Tuam archdiocese from 1975 to 2011, according to the Review of Safeguarding Practice in the archdiocese, just published. Ten of these priests were deceased when the review was undertaken in June 2011.

Council confident that new Briarhill junction will help traffic flow

The new junction at Briarhill is to open on Thursday December 8 and City Hall believes it will make a significant difference to motorists with fewer delays and allowing traffic to flow more freely.

The Briarhill junction is on course to open next week and is part of a major series of works which will see the Galway City Council replace many of the city’s roundabouts with signalised junctions.
