The former chairperson of the HSE West’s regional health forum is calling on Health Minister Leo Varadker to ensure a successor is appointed promptly to fill the position being vacated by the head of the West North West Hospitals Group.
It was announced towards the end of last week that Bill Maher, the chief executive of the organisation, is to leave his position. He is believed to be taking up a new role in the east of the country and will move on within the next few weeks.

Embo Medical, an early stage medical device company based in NUI Galway’s Business Innovation Centre and focused on developing technology to shut down blood flow in blood vessels, has secured €3 million in seed-funding.
The investment syndicate included the AIB Seed Capital Fund (managed by Enterprise Equity), Irrus Investments, HBAN’s Medtech Business Angel Syndicate, Western Development Commission, Enterprise Ireland and the AIB Start-Up Accelerator Fund (managed by ACT Venture Capital). The investment will enable Embo Medical to secure regulatory approval and enter the market, and in doing so employ approximately 10 people directly and up to another 10 people indirectly.
