The Slingshot movement was started by a group of college students 18 months ago with the aim of tackling the rising dropout rate of incoming students in colleges in Ireland, and to create a more sustainable educational environment.

The Console Christmas Lunch is taking place this year in The g Hotel and among the highlights of the event will be a performance by the acclaimed singer-songwriter Marc Roberts.
The event is on Sunday December 6 at 3pm. There will be Christmas carols played on the piano, and guests can mingle and enjoy a drink. They will then move to the ballroom for a three course meal with wine. There will be raffle for overnight hotel stays, as well as dinner and spa vouchers. After dinner, Marc Roberts will perform.

A group of concerned residents in the city have launched a campaign this week to highlight their opposition to the Emerging N6 Preferred Route. They claim that the construction of the road route will be ineffective, will wreck natural amenities and destroy communities. They also suggest that improved bus routes or also a light rail system and would be much more effective in alleviating the traffic problems.
“Politicians may not agree, but generally the Irish are a nation of non-complainers. As long as things are going moderately well, we don’t question why they are not excellent and, far too often, are slow to examine decisions made by City and County Councils,” the group have said in a statement.
