Mayor of Galway Pearce Flannery has hit out at the amount of disinformation regarding the Council decision on busking and performance byelaws which were passed at Monday’s meeting of the City Council.

He says that it should be noted that at no stage whatsoever was it ever proposed to ban busking in Galway nor is there a ban on busking now.

New fisheries campaign aimed at trout anglers during Mayfly season

Inland Fisheries Ireland recently announced the launch of a new campaign, ‘Operation Ephemera’, which is designed to alert anglers to the intensification of efforts to detect those who either take undersize trout or more trout than the rules allow.

Compliance with other relevant angling regulations and rules, including relevant permit conditions which pertain on certain lakes, will also be enforced.

AtlanTec Festival returns for fourth year

Festival season in Galway is well underway with the AtlanTec Festival 2018, which runs through to 25 May. Now in its fourth year, the IT festival is organised by the IT Association Galway (ITAG). At the heart of the festival will be the international conference on 24 May, co-hosted by NUI Galway.

Lyons calls for ‘more industry’ to be developed in Knocknacarra

There is an “urgent need to have more industry developed” on industrial zoned land in Knocknacarra, a move that, if realised, would daily reduce traffic volumes in the area and increase local employment.

This is the view of Independent city councillor Donal Lyons, who this week, with Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish, met Martin Shanahan, chief executive of IDA Ireland, together with senior IDA executives. The meeting took place in Dublin to discuss bringing forward plans to develop the industrial zoned lands at Rahoon, close to the Gateway Park.
