Galway Surfers to paddle the prom to support the lifeboats

The Galway Surfers group will take to the water in Salthill this Sunday at 3pm for Paddle on the Prom, an event to raise much-needed funds for the Galway Lifeboats.

Participants will be paddling on their surfboards parallel for one mile, starting from the Prom car park to Blackrock and back. Funds have been collected through sponsorship cards prior to the event but the public can make donations at the Galway Surfers’ stall on the day.

Drink driver who smashed into three cars is banned for six years

A Rahoon woman, who was nearly three times over the legal limit, received a six-year disqualification after smashing into three parked vehicles in Spiddal village while drunk behind the wheel of her hired car.

Maura Thornton (27) with an address at 182 Gleann Dara, Rahoon, Galway, was summoned to appear at Galway District Court this week for drink driving, driving without insurance and a driving licence and failure to produce both documents on March 23, 2007, at Spiddal.
