One in four women admit wearing their seat belt incorrectly

The Road Safety Authority and An Garda Síochána are appealing to women to ensure they are wearing their seat belts correctly when driving or as a passenger in a vehicle.

Research among women aged 17 to 34, carried out online by independent research company Behaviour & Attitudes for the RSA in February, found 26 per cent of women admitted to previously having worn the shoulder strap of their seat belt under their arm rather than on their shoulder.

Electrifying Ireland’s vehicle fleet a ‘huge challenge’

A key environmental policy to have almost a million electric vehicles on Irish roads by 2030 will be a “huge challenge” unless the Government incentivises and supports dealing with the oldest polluting cars, while increasing the charging infrastructure nationwide.

A new report by Arup and economist Jim Power on reducing light fleet carbon emissions to achieve Government targets, states in order to deal with this older legacy fleet, help will be required for those with the least economic capacity to make the biggest change.

Tractor drivers should stop using plough lamps on roads

Tractor drivers are being advised that plough lamps to the rear of the vehicle should not be used when travelling on public roads.

Work lamps, commonly known as ploughing lamps are fitted to agricultural tractors and self-propelled machinery. These lamps generally emit a white light to the rear of the vehicle to give extra visibility when working on the farm. Only red and amber lights should appear on the rear of a vehicle when used on the road.

Galway leading new car sales in 2022

Galway shows the highest jump with 166 more new cars sold in the period. Co Wicklow had 93 more sales, and Co Meath registered 64 more new cars than last year. All other counties saw less new car sales for the period than for similar months last year.

Motorists admit taking ‘morning after’ driving risk Register of of drink-drivers mooted

Some 10 per cent of motorists admit that in the past year they have driven the day after a night out while possibly still over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

According to a recent AA Ireland survey, three per cent of people said they had travelled with someone who they believed was over the limit in the past year. Sixteen per cent said they “weren’t sure” if the person was over the limit or not.

What was most the searched for used car in 2021?

Recent research was carried out by Carzone with a survey of more than 2,000 people in Ireland and 154 Irish car dealerships. It says of those in the market to buy their next car, more than two thirds (69 per cent) plan to purchase in the next three to 12 months.
