The new Astra arrived in Ireland last month with an extensive line-up of eight engines and five trim levels. Engines have seen an increase in power with a decrease in fuel consumption and emissions, in particular the 1.4i 16v VVT engine, which increases its power output to 100bhp yet emits only 129g/km of CO2, meaning a tax band B rating and road tax of €156pa.

Price cut for Ka and best-selling Fiesta

Ford’s best-selling Fiesta and the Ka have had generous discounts added to the Government scrappage rebate of €1,500, resulting in ex-works prices from €11,700 for Fiesta and €7,995 for the Ka - the lowest price for a Ford car in Ireland in more than 20 years.

Renault double scrappage pays dividends

2WD version makes Lexus RX Hybrid more attractive

The new Lexus RX hybrid is now available in two-wheel drive which will further reduce its already class-leading low emissions.

The new 2 WD model starts at €55,200 which cost €8,575 less than the entry level AWD executive model. The new 2WD version emits 140g CO2/km which places it in Band B tax, meaning it will cost €156 a year for road tax.

Suzuki offers double scrappage deals

A new Suzuki Alto 1.0 litre manual version will now cost €8,690 ex-works for those who qualify for the Government scrappage scheme.

It is what Suzuki calls its ‘Scrap and Save €3,000' offer which is effectively doubling the Government €1,500 scrappage bounty.

Kia Motors Ireland has announced significant price reductions for the Picanto, Rio and cee’d models. Picanto has been reduced by €1850, Rio by €1500, and cee’d models by €2000.

Mercedes-Benz cuts C-Class price

Mercedes-Benz has continued its price-cutting drive with a nine per cent reduction to its entry-level C-Class diesel and petrol models.

Effective immediately, the C200 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model is reduced in price to €36,500 (ex works), a drop of €3,570 on the previous €40,070 figure. In its manual form, this model also qualifies for band B road tax of €156 annually.
