Santa will be returning to Dunsandle Castle, Kiltullagh, this December, along with Mrs Claus and their elves for Santa’s Castle 2011. This event, now in its third year, is gaining a reputation as one of Galway’s leading Christmas events.

Santa’s Castle is a fun experience for all the family, where both young and old can revel in the magic of Christmas. Ninety minutes of seasonal adventure begins when you and your family are greeted by the woodland elves, who lead you on a torch-lit procession through the atmospheric castle woods. When you arrive at the castle you are welcomed into Mrs Claus’s kitchen where there are songs, stories, and treats, before ascending the 15th century medieval spiral staircase to Santa’s great hall. Each child has a personalised visit with Father Christmas, and also receives an educational gift. The tour culminates with a trip to Santa’s workshop, where children can create their own Christmas cards and decorations with the help of Santa’s elves.

Galway man honoured at prestigious RDS crafts competition

Oranmore resident Fergal Costello was awarded second prize in the furniture category at the RDS crafts competition. He also received the Duff-Tisdall award for innovative design and construction, which came along with a €500 cash prize. Costello’s winning entry, Tree chair, was the product of more than 200 hours of design and craft work. The chair was exhibited in the RDS during the Dublin Horse Show, and will be travelling around the country with the exhibition for the rest of the year.

Dunnamaggin in Co Kilkenny recently played host to the Husqvarna ride-on mower Guinness World Record attempt which saw 1,000 ride-on mowers cutting grass on the same field at the same time. Husqvarna sponsored this event, which raised much needed funds for the Camphill Community, a therapeutic community for children and adults with multiple disabilities.
