Galway Community College of Further Education offers more than 40 part-time evening programmes. These courses cover many disciplines and currently cater for approximately 500 learners annually. There is a wide range of relevant accredited and general interest programmes available every September and January. The hugely popular Bodhrán Magic adult group beginner courses are registering now and starting very soon in the city centre at a school venue with very easy and free parking. The bodhrán is a brilliant instrument to play; it is very accessible for all ages and has become extremely popular for very good reason. Run by professional Galway musician and educator Brian Ferguson, the courses provide proper tuition and a brilliant step by step learning system that keeps students motivated and inspired, and is enjoyable as you progress and learn to play along to tunes with confidence and clarity. Recent research has shown that playing drums weekly has a massive positive effect on mental health, and learning music is proven to be a lovely energising challenge in life. Budget 2024 reveals free school books for students up to junior cycle

Minister for Finance, Michael McGrath, has announced in Budget 2024 that free school books will be administered for students up to junior cycle. This measure will cost €67 million, and will benefit over 200,000 children, amounting to €310 per child. Primary school books were already free, but this has been increased to the first three years of secondary school as part of a €55 million package.
