THE GALWAY Film Fleadh concluded last night with the premiere of An Klondike, a movie version of a four-part mini series to be aired on TG4 later in the year. The first Irish western, and with dialogue mostly as Gaeilge, this is an incredibly ambitious undertaking.

AN KLONDIKE, the first western made in Ireland, filmed entirely in Galway and the west, by Galway the based Abú Media, closes this year's Galway Film Fleadh when it is screened on Sunday at the Town Hall Theatre at 8.30pm.

THERE IS a heightened and exciting edge to the Galway Film Fleadh's Out On Film strand this year, given it comes after Ireland’s historic marriage equality referendum and the equally momentous affirmation of same-sex rights in the USA.
The strand, which concentrates on contemporary LGBT films and documentaries from around the globe, features Swiss filmmaker Marcel Gisler’s documentary Electroboy (Thursday July 9, 10.30pm), which explores the world of former model and current Swiss electronic musician and party organizer Florian Burkhardt.

SEQUELS TO hit childrens movies rarely go well. There are a lot more Madagascar 2s than Toy Story 3s. The fact that, rather than going down the traditional path of a third Despicable Me, a spin off of the film's most popualr characters, the minions, was planned, this reviewer was surprised but pleased.
