A project born to life in Galway to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by one gigaton by 2030 has been awarded the prestigious title of Engineering Endeavour of 2020 by Engineers Ireland and ESB.
The ADVANCER project, developed by Galway-based ThermoKing and their parent company Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), was awarded the prestigious accolade having featured in Engineers Ireland’s Engineering Excellence Digital Series, held in association with ESB, and was chosen by the public and members of Engineers Ireland as the top engineering project of 2020 following an online vote.

HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network), the all-island organisation responsible for the promotion of business angel investment, and a joint initiative of Enterprise Ireland, InterTradeIreland and Invest Northern Ireland, has announced that investors in its WxNW Syndicate along with Enterprise Ireland have invested €650,000 in Galway-based Ronspot Solutions. HBAN angel investors have contributed €400,000 to this funding round, while Enterprise Ireland has invested €250,000. Angels from HBAN’s Dublin, London and Singapore groups have also invested.

A project that connects patients with their loved ones, against a backdrop of COVID-19 restrictions on visits to hospitals, has seen NUI Galway win a National Impact Award.
The university worked with industry partners Cisco and IBM to deliver a state-of-the-art video call system, ICU FamilyLink, specifically for the intensive care unit setting at University Hospital Galway (UHG). The project won the Knowledge Transfer Ireland Impact Award, in the ‘COVID-19 Response’ Category on 26 November.
