Tánaiste announces €6million investment in capital equipment for industry research

The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD yesterday (Wednesday) announced the successful applicants of the Capital Equipment Fund administered by Enterprise Ireland through the Technology Gateway and Technology Centre Programmes.
29 successful projects from across the third level sector have secured over €6million in funding to assist them in buying world-leading research equipment that will serve the Research and Development (R&D) needs of Irish industry.

ÉireComposites, an innovative design, manufacturing and testing company based in Inverin last evening announced a partnership with Manna Galway that will see it design and develop an aerospace grade carbon fibre airframe for Manna. Alongside NUI Galway (NUIG) the two companies also announced that they received €2.44 million for the MI-DRONE project. The funding comes from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment under its latest round of the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund (DTIF).

Ivan McPhillips, GMIT Business School lecturer, and co-founder of the GMIT Youth Entrepreneur Summer Camp, has won the 2021 Enterprise Ireland Academic Award in recognition of his involvement in and the promotion of the annual Student Entrepreneur Awards competition since 1997.
The Rahoon-based academic, who lectures in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Rural Development in GMIT’s Galway city campus, was announced as the winner of a trophy and a cheque for €1000 from Enterprise Ireland at the virtual awards presentation ceremony last weekend.

Why Galway is an initiative from Galway Chamber which will target the domestic market, and companies from China, USA, Britain, and the EU. It will seek to grow the number of active enterprises in Galway to 16,500, creating an expected 3,000 additional FDI jobs, and increasing the numbers supported by local enterprises to 80,000.
