WIN was set up in 2009 to provide a service to the new or unexpected unemployed and those who are under employed. WIN a not for profit organization and provides a unique service whereby members fully participate in all activities rather than being a passive observer. It is through communication, training, mentoring and networking that WIN helps and encourages members to create employment and business opportunities for themselves and others.
One of the powerful aspects of WIN is member participation which allows each person to rebuild their confidence and self esteem. People who come to WIN also have the opportunity to use their skills to help others but they also utilise the group to learn from others and enhance their own skills.

NUI Galway has this week been hosting the 2012 Sino-European Symposium on Environment and Health (SESEH 2012) which provides a platform for interaction between scientists, consultants, and public servants engaged in the multi-disciplinary area of environment and health.
The conference which began on Monday, August 20 and runs until Saturday, August 25 has welcomed more than 200 delegates, including 100 experts from China. SESEH will, for the first time, provide an opportunity for a direct communication between environment and health experts from China and Europe, and help to foster and develop international collaborations. SESEH 2012 will discuss questions such as ‘Is the air we breathe still fresh?’, ‘Is the water we drink still clean?’ and ‘Is the food we eat still safe?’

Cambus Teo, a Spiddal-based company, has secured investment from Helix Medical, a global manufacturer for the medical device and healthcare industries, which will create 35 jobs. Under the agreement, Helix Medical will provide expansion financing and acquire a 50 per cent share in the company.

88 new housing units were commenced in the first four months of 2012 in Galway, according to new statistics released by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF). This represents a drop of 25 units or 22 per cent on the same period during 2011, when work began on 113 new units, according to the CIF’s latest Housing Statistics Bulletin.
