Medtronic this week opened a new Customer Innovation Centre in Galway, Ireland, providing state of the art facilities for physicians and Medtronic engineers to work together on developing new therapies that will improve clinical outcomes, provide economic value and increase access to quality healthcare for patients around the world. The Centre was opened by EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research and Science Ms. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn.

Expansion for Claregalway stocktaking firm

Headquartered in Claregalway, Stocktaking.ie employs four full time staff and an additional 90 part- time staff throughout Ireland. The expansion plans will see the number of full time employees double to eight as the company increases its market share in the retail and the food and beverage industry.

Take advantage of toll holidays, transport companies are told

Following the announcement that there is to be a one-month ‘toll-holiday’ for heavy goods vehicles in November 2013, the Freight Transport Association Ireland (FTAI) has told its members to take advantage of the opportunity which should save them money.

Leo Varadkar, Ireland’s Minister for Transport has proposed the removal of the toll fees in order to ‘coax truckers off the back roads’, saying “I want to find out if trucks will start using our motorways more often if we change the current tolling regime.”

Number of Galway house starts grows

The number of new houses being built in Galway has grown in the first five months of 2013, according to new statistics released by the Construction Industry Federation (CIF). According to the latest CIF Housing Statistics Bulletin, there has been a 38 per cent increase in new house starts, with 184 units being started this year compared to 133 during the same period in 2012. This represents an increase of 51 units.
