Fintrax Group expansion continues apace with South Korean joint venture

Fintrax, the Galway-based tourist VAT refund and dynamic currency conversion specialist, has announced its expansion into the South Korean market through a joint venture agreement with the LOTTE Group, South Korea’s fifth largest conglomerate. The LOTTE Group deal will see both groups tap into the booming tax refund market in Korea which has grown tenfold since 2010.

Two Galway companies have been recognised as leaders in their fields at the 2017 Deloitte Best Managed Companies held last week.
127 companies employing almost 60,000 staff all around Ireland have been named Best Managed Companies by Deloitte at the 2017 awards ceremony last night in Dublin’s Convention Centre. Sixteen new winners join an existing network of companies awarded the accolade since the scheme’s establishment nine years ago. The awards, in association with Barclays Bank Ireland were attended by over 900 people from the Irish business community.

The annual GMIT International Construction Management Day Conference will take place at the GMIT Dublin Road campus on Tuesday March 7, from 9am. Hosted by the GMIT Department of Building and Civil Engineering it is the largest annual gathering of its kind in the west of Ireland, bringing together architects, engineers, surveyors, contractors and academics to discuss matters of interest in the built environment.
The conference started in 2010 when the construction industry was in deep trouble. In terms of output value, the industry contracted by nearly 80 per cent in the recent recession. This year’s conference will however, discuss a different set of problems. The authoritative annual AECOM report on the construction industry reveals that output grew by 15 per cent in 2016 and predicts further growth of 20 per cent in 2017. In cash terms this equates to around €3 billion of extra construction work.

At the other end of the scale at what we call grassroots football, the question becomes where do we get the money? Any money will do if it helps us put one brick on top of another in an attempt at improving the club, primarily the club facilities. From good facilities, other good things should follow.
