Local Enterprise Office Galway is encouraging more women to go from ‘local to global’ with their businesses by helping to organise events around the country, with over 1,000 female entrepreneurs expected.
Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, has launched the national programme of events for National Women’s Enterprise Day (NWED) 2018 taking place on Thursday October 18 with 16 major entrepreneurial events planned across the country, including a joint event for Galway, Mayo, and Roscommon in Kilronan Castle.

Western Management Centre is once again running the award in project management course which is validated by QQI (Quality and Qualifications Ireland). The course is designed to provide an end to end overview of the project management process from the initiation of a project to closing. It will provide the tools and frameworks to help an individual navigate through each phase of a project and identify issues that have the potential to jeopardise the project’s objectives and completion.
The course will take place one evening a week from September to November in the Western Management Training Centre in Dangan, Galway. Participants will also be required to submit written assessments both during and at the end of the course in order to achieve certification.

The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, TD, last week turned the first sod on the site of the new extension to GMIT’s Innovation Hub (iHub) at the GMIT Galway campus.
This extension will double the size of the Innovation Hub to about 2,400 m2, providing space for an additional three dedicated MedTech R&D units; 17 incubation units for start-ups in the Software, Digital Tech, Connected Health sectors; a Co-Working space; an Events Space; Social Hubs; and, breakout meeting and networking areas. The extension will also provide a dedicated Entrepreneurship Hub where GMIT researchers, staff, students and Industry can work collaboratively on the creation and development of innovative ideas in support of an Open Innovation Strategy.

Research conducted by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) reveals that two in five adults living in Connacht would consider buying an electric vehicle (EV). The research, which surveyed 1,000 people, found that the lower running costs of driving an EV was the primary reason for considering to purchase (41%), second only to helping the environment (51%).

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has launched a short, interactive on-line course titled ‘An Introduction to Construction Safety for Small Contractors and the Self-Employed’.
The course has been developed by the HSA with the support of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), in order to provide relevant health and safety information to small construction contractors and to raise awareness of the importance of occupational safety, health and welfare in construction.
