County players return to club action

It is back to club football for many of Galway’s senior county players this weekend, and a full round of the senior football championship games is scheduled.

After the harrowing defeat to Mayo on Sunday, county players will be glad to go back to the bosom of their club and worry about county football at a later date.

There are some attractive games down for decision this weekend and many people will be looking forward to Milltown's first game with former Kildare star James Kavanagh in action. They face Caherlistrane on Saturday at 5.30pm in Tuam.

The championship big guns such as Corofin, Salthill-Knocknacarra and Killererin will all be expected to advance this weekend to the next round. I would also fancy An Cheathrú Rua to take Barna on Sunday.

Several other games are difficult to call with no real form to go on. The full list of senior fixtures is as follows.

Saturday May 25: St James v Caltra (Tuam Stadium 3.45pm ); Milltown v Caherlistrane (Tuam Stadium 5.30pm ); Salthill-Knocknacarra v Cárna-Caiseal Pearse Stadium 5.45pm ); Micheál Breathnachs v Corofin Pearse Stadium (7.30pm ).

Sunday May 26: Killererin v St Michael’s (Corofin 1pm ); Moycullen v Kilconly (Corofin 2.45pm ); Mountbellew v Leitir Móir (Pearse Stadium 2.30pm ); Barna v An Cheathrú Rua ( Indreabhán 3.45pm ); Cortoon Shamrocks v Tuam Stars (Tuam Stadium 5pm ); Annaghdown v Kilkerrin-Clonberne (Tuam 6.45pm ).
