The jobs front in Galway was given a much needed boost earlier this week when it was announced that cloud computing company SourceDogg.com is to create 80 jobs.
Founded in 2009 by Mark Scanlon and John Quigley SourceDogg.com has developed cloud technologies which allow users to find and evaluate new suppliers with an easy-to-use approach to quotations, tenders and other aspects of the procurement process. The company is to expand its operations centre in the IDA Business Park in Dangan and the 80 high tech jobs will be across the areas of engineering, IT support, and professional services.
Making the announcement on Monday Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, Richard Bruton, said: “If we are to reach the levels of employment and economic growth which we are determined to achieve, we must create a powerful engine of indigenous enterprise. Crucial in this will be exporting companies, and in particular high-tech, engineering-driven, companies, and the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs spells out a range of measures we will take to support these companies as they expand and create jobs... I am determined that, with the proper supports from Government, companies like SourceDogg can drive the sustainable, enterprise-led, job-creating recovery we so badly need.”
The latest announcement comes after the addition of 12 staff late last year at the company due to a funding injection from Nucleus Venture Partners. The company has a growing number of customers across five countries including a recent signing with Aer Lingus. It has a number of software developers based at its offices in the Guinness Enterprise Centre in Dublin, and has more recently opened a sales office in Kent in the UK.
Further growth is on the cards for this innovative company with CEO Mark Scanlon vowing that SourceDogg.com “will be the largest company in this sector worldwide by 2014”. At the announcement, Mr Scanlan further explained that the new jobs at the company are “a great opportunity for individuals to be an early part of an Irish success story”.
Welcoming this job creation Fine Gael Galway West senator Fidelma Healy Eames said: “Allowing indigenous companies like SourceDogg.com to flourish forms a key part of the Government’s job strategy. We are determined to create the conditions that make it easier for small firms to start-up and grow. The Action Plan for Jobs includes a range of measures that will help high-tech, export-driven, companies to expand. By encouraging firms to develop in this way we can make a real impact on our unemployment problem.”
“This [the announcement] is a further sign of the attraction of Galway as a location for investment,” said Labour TD for Galway West Derek Nolan who added that the 80 new jobs is a welcome boost for the city and is a “further indiction that job creation is the Government’s number one priority”.
Galway East Labour senator Lorraine Higgins said: “These highly skilled jobs are exactly the type of jobs which the Irish economy needs. As an Irish start-up company, SourceDogg.com is a home-grown success. With ongoing support from Enterprise Ireland, SourceDogg.com aims to be the largest company in its sector worldwide and a new champion for the indigenious IT industry.”
