Galway based Hawkeye Films became the first film crew to film inside the famous Rainbow School in Kolkata, India. The results of that filming have been made into a documentary to be broadcast this weekend.
Scoil an tSolais - School of Light will be broadcast on TG4 this Sunday at 9.30pm as part of the station’s Cogar series.
The film follows Moya MacEoin, a retired schoolteacher from Kinvara, who spends her summers helping out in The Rainbow School Programme, in Kolkata, India. The school is run by Sr Cyril Mooney, an Irish Loreto nun, who recently received India’s highest civil award, the Padma Sari.
Hailed as a revolution in education, the school gives light and hope to the forgotten street children of this teeming city. Scoil an tSolais is directed by Pranjali Bhave, a young Indian filmmaker now living in the west of Ireland, and gives viewers an insight into how Sr Cyril has pioneered a new approach to helping the underprivileged.
