Local man, Philip Ryan, has once again demonstrated his commitment to charity in memory of his lost loved ones and friends, raising more than €10,000 in support of Galway Hospice through his 2025 fundraising run.

Ryan’s annual run took place through the city on November 22, with the local runner tackling a whopping 64km route into 10 stages, each spanning 6.4km, with each stage being dedicated to a special person along the way. Coordinated in honour of his late great uncle John, who was known as Sully or The Bull, the run took place on what would have been John’s 64th birthday. Last week’s run was the third annual fundraising run organised by Ryan.

Wearing a jersey which was decorated with 200 names of Ryan’s late loved ones and friends, he described the run as “more than an annual event, it is a representation of the greats in this community that I am very lucky to be a part of”.

Making the event extra special, Ryan’s 12-year-old daughter Cailyn joined her father for a portion of the run.

In a message on his iDonate page, Ryan thanked supporters and highlighted the collective effort, saying, “Every euro raised brings us closer to helping families who rely on Galway Hospice at difficult times.”

With so many individuals in the community facing life-limiting illnesses, contributions like Ryan’s make a tangible difference, helping ensure that the services offered by Galway Hospice remain available to those who need them most.
