Public meeting on ‘What’s Next For The Left?’

People Before Profit Galway will be hosting a public meeting along with Sinn Féin, the Social Democrats, Labour and Independents titled ‘What’s next for the Left’ on Thursday November 27 at 7.30pm in the Harbour Hotel.

Last month’s momentous presidential election victory for Catherine Connolly saw widespread co-operation between all parties and independents on the left working together to organise and canvass across the country. The left has also been working closely together on solidarity actions for Palestine and are coming together in the Dáil to push through the Occupied Territories Bill.

The meeting will discuss how they can keep such co-operation going and build it into campaigns around domestic issues such as housing and the cost of living and global issues such as Irish neutrality and the climate crisis. They will also be looking towards the coming by-election in Galway West and Dublin and how they can build a left platform to fight for the seats.

The Galway meeting is one of a series of meetings happening around the country since the presidential election to build on recent successes and develop a stronger campaign for real change in this country.

Speakers will include People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy, Social Democrats councillor Alan Curran, Independent councillor Eibhlín Seoighthe, Labour councillor Helen Ogbu and Sinn Féin representative Mark Lohan.

Former University of Galway lecturer John Cunningham will chair the meeting.

The meeting is open to the public to attend and contribute to the discussion.
