Concerns have been raised over delays in the installation of new public lighting in Caherlistrane, after it emerged that almost €50,000 in funding allocated for the project last year has yet to be spent.
At this week’s Tuam Municipal District meeting, Cllr Andrew Reddington (FG ) highlighted that the funding, earmarked for lighting between the GAA pitch and Kilvolan, had been divided between himself and Cllr Mary Hoade (FF ) to progress the scheme.
Speaking at Monday’s meeting, Cllr Reddington said the works should now be prioritised, stressing the need to “speed things up a bit” in delivering such projects.
Responding, Director of Services Michael Owens confirmed that the lighting scheme had been approved and that the Tuam area office would move to tender for the works in 2026.
Cllr Reddington reiterated his view that the timeline should be accelerated to ensure that long-awaited improvements for the area are completed without further delay.
