Sinn Féin TD for Galway East, Louis O’Hara, has received confirmation from the NTA that proposals in relation to the 425A bus from Mountbellew-Galway and bus services for Athenry will go to public consultation in the coming weeks.

Speaking this week Deputy O’Hara said that the NTA had proposed to re-route Bus Éireann’s 425A bus service through Athenry due to the lack of bus services in Athenry at present.

“Many people have been in contact with me with concerns about this proposal – people along the existing route between Monivea and Cussane Cross who would have lost out on a service, and people right along the route and in Athenry who were concerned that there would not be sufficient capacity for the additional demand on the service.

“I have been passing these concerns on to the NTA and today they have informed me that they are putting these plans on hold and they are going to open a public consultation on this route in the next 2-3 weeks,” he said, adding that everyone will have the opportunity to take part in this consultation and express their views on the future of bus services in the area.

“I firmly believe the 425A existing route should be maintained and there should be a standalone bus from Athenry to Galway to minimise disruption and ensure everyone is accommodated,” he concluded.
