The Western Family History Association is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year with an event to be held on Wednesday, November 12 at 8:00 p.m. in the Lackagh Parish Centre. This night is open to all to acknowledge those who have served as officers and members of the executive committee over the years.
The event will bring together past and present members to share memories and valuable information. This will be an occasion where people involved in Family History Research over the past thirty years will get together in a night of nostalgia and fun.
Thirty years ago, when there was little talk of family history research, a small group of people who had been pursuing their own family history decided to get together with a shared vision - to promote the study of family history research and to support others in doing so.
Paul O’Donnell, from Mullagh, was the initial founder of the organisation. He has given tremendous help to many over the past thirty years in the form of advice, guidance, and encouragement in supporting countless people to carry out research on their own ancestors.
While the Western Family History Association has never undertaken research on behalf of others, it has been instrumental in helping many by providing resources and lectures over the past thirty years.
Many members from a vast area have gained valuable information and expertise in relation to family research and have access to a wonderful resource library free of charge as members of the Association.
The Association meets every two months in Lackagh, and on next Wednesday, November 12, at 8:00 p.m. in the Lackagh Parish Centre.
