Athenry Juvenile AC had a successful cross country event at the Galway Uneven Ages Cross Country Championship which was held in Tuam Palace grounds on Sunday, October 12.
A crisp morning set the scene in Tuam, where Athenry Juvenile AC fielded seven teams ranging from U9 to U15. Athenry Juvenile AC took home 11 individual medals and three team medals. From the very first race, the athletes brought grit, determination, and a ferocious team spirit to the fore.
The U11 Girls consisting of Robyn Toner, Alannah Coffey, Sophia King, Isla Howley, Emma O'Malley, and D'arcy Kearney won a team silver medal. The U13 Boys secured bronze thanks to the efforts of team members Shane Higgins, Eoghan Shryane, Tadhg Delmer, James O'Malley, Dylan Cake, and Cian Casserly. The U13 Girls team of Aine McGann, Brooke Daly, Emma Coffey, and Roisin McDonagh also brought a bronze medal home or their club.
It was an 'elbows-out' kind of day - with every stride, place, and second counting towards team success. These young runners have shown unwavering commitment at every training session, pushing through the tougher days with resilience that truly inspires.
Some athletes even stepped up an age category, taking on longer distances without hesitation proving just how adaptable and courageous they are. Their performances were nothing short of phenomenal. They dug deep and never gave up and that is a fighting team spirit.
Thanks to our wonderful coaches who take time out every week to train our athletes, the guidance and expertise and advice is always welcome. Thanks to Tuam Athletics for hosting a very timely event.
