Galway's Greene earns World Championships selection

Galway City Harriers athlete Cillin Greene has earned a well-deserved selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo which start September 13.

Galway City Harriers athlete Cillin Greene has earned a well-deserved selection for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo which start September 13.

Greene will reunite with Sharlene Mawdsley in the Mixed Relay 4x400m squad, and alongside Jack Raftery, Conor Kelly, Sophie Becker and Rachel McCann. The GCH athlete has previously medalled with the Mixed Relay squad at the World Relays and is a proven international competitor

Michelle Duggan, formerly of Craughwell AC (now UCD ) will also travel as part of the Women's 4x400m squad along with the aforementioned Mawdsley, Becker, McCann, and Cliodhna Manning. Duggan has excelled this season under coach Adam McMullen and has been in strong form ahead of the Worlds.

Claregalway 5k and 10k results

The recent 2025 Claregalway Road Races organised by Clare River Harriers saw 5k honours go to Donal Farren of Letterkenny AC in 15.45 and Clodagh Egan in 19.58.

John Dolan was first home for GCH in the 10k running 34.36, with Siobhan Egan first lady in 40.34.

Upcoming fixtures

The Galway Primary Schools Cross Country Championships take place on September 30 and October 7. It will be open to all third to sixth class pupils, the first day is semi-final day and this year it will take place in Galway Racecourse, with the finals taking place in Renmore as usual.

Entry forms have been issued to all schools.

Craughwell AC host their 10k and 10 Mile races this Sunday, September 7 with limited entry still on Eventmaster.
