United claim U14 title

Xavi Vazquez's team defeated Shamrock Rovers

GALWAY UNITED 2 SHAMROCK ROVERS 0

Hope and expectation has been attached to this crop of exciting Galway United U14 players with a national league title secured at Lissywollen.

Denis Sirbu and Kyle Fitzgerald grabbed the goals in a high quality match which showcased United's substance and style.

The defensive excellence of Tommy Lillis and Billy Regan was a key factor, while further up the pitch Fitzgerald dashed about craving involvement and Donnacha Sammon was a powerful threat.

Undoubtedly there was a slice of good fortune about Sirbu's goal, but the United right full was splendid throughout.

Xavi Vazquez continued his policy of giving the two goalkeepers in his squad, MacDara Scanlon and Jason Daly, an opportunity to play. Both made crucial saves.

Scanlon thwarted Ike Orazi in the 26th minute and on the hour mark Daly did well to deny Darragh Marshall.

Daly made another remarkable save from a Marshall effort in stoppage time as United remained defiant.

Fitzgerald decorated the victory with a delightful second goal late on as United earned silverware.
