Sandra Coffey, a former journalist with the Galway Advertiser, has published a book aimed at businesses looking to grow again after the pandemic.
Breaking Into The Media – A Journalist’s Guide to Publicity is the first book by the Athenry native, and was inspired by her career in the media, including her time in the Galway Advertiser during the noughties. “I learned so much there and it set me up for the rest of my career,” she says.
Ms Coffey says the book seeks to help businesses looking to get more clients find a way to get going again. “Businesses should every once in a while, help people discover and love what they do. The best and easiest way to do this is through publicity,” she says. “Many people believe they don’t have a good enough story to make it into the media. Oftentimes, they just haven’t figured out what the best angle is
.
The main focus of this book is to help people see that their story can be newsworthy, and it does this through focussing on a number of issues:
Routes to getting publicity; an insider’s look at the newsroom and how it helps you get inside the mind of a journalist; generating story ideas; how to perform in interviews; what you can do to get people to reply to you; writing press releases; pitching emails; tips on press photos; launching products; and dealing with rejection.
Breaking Into The Media – A Journalist’s Guide to Publicity is £10.99 (paperback ) and £5.99 (Kindle ) from Amazon.
