Dangers of driving the morning after consuming alcohol highlighted

An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) have united to highlight the dangers of driving the morning after consuming alcohol.

Eleven percent of fatal collisions in which a driver had consumed alcohol, occurred between the hours of 7am and 11am. An Garda Síochána and the RSA have appealed to all road users to act responsibly and safely on the roads throughout the Christmas and New Year period.

New car registrations still continue to fall in November

Official statistics released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that the total new car registrations for the month of November were down 5.72 percent (643) when compared to the same period in 2017 (682). Registrations year to date are down 4.4 percent (125,415) on November of last year (131,173).

New Light Commercial Vehicle registrations (LCV) have slightly decreased, 1.55% (572) on November 2017 (581), but are up 5.7 percent (25,340) year to date. While New Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HGV) have also seen a decrease of 38 percent for the month of November (80) when compared to the same month last year (129) and are up 2.5 percent (2,538) year to date.

Results from the latest batch of vehicles to be tested by Euro NCAP and its partners have been announced. Cars from Hyundai, Lexus, Mazda and Mercedes-Benz all achieved five star Euro NCAP ratings for safety, with Peugeot, Citroen and Opel’s five door MPV taking home a four star rating.
