Outrageous behaviour by Mullingar woman

A Mullingar woman has been given a two month suspended sentence for what Judge Eamon O’Brien described as “outrageous behaviour”.

Ms Brigid Nevin grabbed a woman from the passenger seat of a car and pulled the hair from her head outside the VEC at 9am on September 16.

The court heard Ms Nevin had been waiting outside the VEC for the woman to arrive and the incident was captured on CCTV.

Mr Louis Kiernan said his client had never been in any trouble before and was a separated woman, rearing two children.

He said the incident arose as a result of “tensions between families” and said the victim was an aunt of her estranged husband.

Her actions were “completely out of character” for her, said Mr Kiernan who apologised on behalf of his client.

Judge O’Brien said the incident was “not very pleasant” and imposed a two month sentence which he suspended for two years under a peace bond.
