Health Minister urged to avert looming orthopaedic crisis at Merlin Park Hospital

A call has been made for the Minister for Health to avert a looming crisis at Merlin Park Hospital which is threatening to cripple the provision of orthopaedic services in the west from next month.

Almost one-third of the nursing staff at the hospital’s orthopaedic department are set to retire in February and will not be replaced due to the HSE’s recruitment ban.

Cambridge exam testing centre opens at Bridge Mills Galway Language Centre

Bridge Mills Galway Language Centre, a Department of Education-recognised training institute now in its 25th year of business, has just become a Cambridge examination testing centre offering FCE, CAE, and CPE testing facilities as well as a range of other Cambridge exams. Students can now complete their Cambridge examination preparation courses at the centre on a full-time basis in the morning or part-time in the evening and take their exam at the centre throughout the year.

Last year the school also became a FETAC centre. FETAC, one of the largest providers of certification for courses, is a State-run certification system, and Bridge Mills Galway Language Centre will soon be offering FETAC certification on its English language and foreign language programmes as well as on the other non-language programmes the centre runs.
