Moycullen basketball club will need something of a miracle if they are to qualify for the Super League playoffs after they suffered a crushing 88-71 loss at home to Templeogue.

They now travel north for a clash with Belfast Star, who are currently one position ahead of them on the league leaderboard. Moycullen will need two wins in their next two games, and some favourable results elsewhere, if they are to extend their season.

The Galway men, missing a couple of players through injury, were up against the odds against the cup champions Templeogue last weekend. The visitors started the game extremely well, and Moycullen struggled to match their physicality. Although the scores slowly started to come through Joseph Tummon, Brandon McGuire and and Paul Freeman, the visitors had amassed a 27-15 lead after the first quarter.

Jason Killeen continued to prove a handful, helping his side to a 16-point lead at the break, and while Moycullen fought admirably the game came to its inevitable conclusion.

“The fact that we have a couple of players out with injuries, and a couple more not 100 percent, hurt us,” said Moycullen captain James Loughnanne.

“Credit to Templeogue though. They are the cup champions for a reason. They played their game today, and we just couldn’t take them out of their comfort zone."
